Uncle Joe’s cracks hazelnuts and walnuts daily, fresh to order, and is proud to distribute these award winning, quality products around New Zealand.

Uncle Joe's family business is situated on the outskirts of Blenheim, Marlborough - a region with a rich resource of deep alluvial, free draining soils on the Wairau Plains.

The gigantic walnut trees scattered across Marlborough are a landmark set from past generations of settlers who planted these nut trees with great vision. These old walnut giants produce a range of kernel varieties which are the key to some unique flavours enjoyed in our products.

We grow an Ennis variety of hazelnut in our orchard. Ennis is not widely grown in New Zealand, but we think it has the best flavour and grows and crops well in Marlborough. It has a large, beautiful looking nut that was developed for the table hazelnut market.

Harvesting and production

Uncle Joe's harvests hazelnuts and walnuts in March and April and normally has enough crop to supply all year.

We have a great team of girls working here, who are as passionate about the product as we are and they select the best quality kernels to carry Marlborough's reputation for gourmet food. Our equipment has been custom built and selected to ensure the nuts are not damaged during cracking.

As a small business, we strive to ensure our customers' and suppliers' needs are heard and delivered. We tailor our business to satisfy our customers and are constantly searching for innovative ways and ideas to improve products and production.

Products

Our kernels are cracked to order, so always arrive fresh to our outlets. We think the variety of trees available to us gives us an edge on flavour for our products.

The walnut oil and hazelnut oil are made from cold pressing the nut kernels. There is no roasting or additives, therefore only ‘100% pure nut’. Our process is completely natural, cholesterol free and retains all the health benefits each variety of nut has to offer.

The walnut spreads and hazelnut spreads are also “100% pure nut” and easier to incorporate into your daily life on toast!

Our newest product is Uncle Joes gluten free hazelnut and walnut meal. Offering great versatility and imagination to our cooks out there - it’s a real hit.

As we said earlier, we are passionate about our product and our business’s impact on the community. We use 100% of our product, right down to the shell. They are perfect for mulch to prevent weeds and slugs in the garden and for the chooks to peck through for any leftovers, but they are also being ground up for use in some prize industries.
